So, Waymo and Uber Eats are teaming up, and it’s the biggest thing to hit food delivery in a while. Imagine ordering your favorite dish and having an autonomous, super-smart car roll up to your doorstep with it. That sounds like the future, and it’s happening right now.
Waymo’s self-driving cars, decked out with all the tech bells and whistles, are delivering eats from the vast array of Uber Eats restaurants. This means your food not only gets to you super fast but also in a way that’s kinder to the planet (yep, these cars are electric and eco-friendly).

It’s not just about getting your food on time and being more eco-friendly, though. This collaboration is a sneak peek into a future where tech could make life just that bit easier.
But will it be reliable? Safe? Will it put hardworking delivery drivers out of business? These are all good questions, and ones we don’t have answers for right away.

The caveat of an autonomous car delivering your Pad Kee Mao or Pizza is that there is no driver to bring your food to the doorstep. Instead, you’ll be asked to come to the car and get your food from the trunk when it arrives.
Also, the service is only available in the Phoenix metro area to start. Waymo has been training its autonomous Jaguar EVs on its roads for the last few years.
We know this is an early effort, and imagine there will be a number of challenges, safety and ethics being big ones. Though we imagine this type of technology will progress quickly.
