In the world of construction, steel and concrete are still the go-to materials for intensive, high strength applications.

But what if wood could take the place of those heavy, carbon-intensive materials?

Startup InventWood claims it has done just that, with their Superwood products, which are stronger than steel, while remaining lightweight and beautiful.

Using state-of-the-art compression and molecular modification, InventWood says their products have a Class A fire rating, up to  10x the strength-to-weightof steel, and very lightweight.

We compress the wood using precision-controlled techniques, increasing density up to 4x, creating hydrogen bonds between cellulose fibers. This dramatically improves strength while naturally enhancing moisture and rot resistance.

Additionally, Superwood has a 90% lower carbon footprint than steel, making it far more eco-friendly than traditional materials.

The startup has already amassed 144 patents towards its proprietary method, and aims to start delivering indoor and outdoor Superwood products this year.

Even more strong than materials like cross-laminated timber, Superwood should be able to create high-rise buildings with a similar strength and resilience as steel.
