In all sorts of science fiction, we see characters looking through some sort of scope or binoculars, and the scopes identify and ‘enhance’ the image.

A scope in star wars, which always showed a sci-fi overlay on the viewfinder.
It’s remained science fiction for some time.
No longer, thanks to devices like the Envision Smart Binoculars, which have some amazing tricks up their sleeve.

Combining 10x magnification with a custom-designed augmented reality (AR) projection system, the binoculars have a whole slew of magical features.

With their augmented reality overlay, the Envision binoculars promise helpful landmark detection, trail markings, and more. A smart compass feature, with orientation and elevation details, will make you feel like you have superpowers.

From knowing your surroundings, and pointing out landmarks, to identifying the constellations you’re gazing at in the sky, Envision promises some pretty amazing things.

Imagining looking up at the night sky, and having the binoculars tell you the celestial object you’re gazing at. The smart overlay feels like something out of Star Wars, or other sci-fi.
Of course, the AR overlay can be switched off, providing you with perfectly capable binoculars, when you don’t want additional information.
Not only can Envision identify the mountain or star system you’re looking at, it can actively guide you there, with an in-scope interface that points you to the correct place to look.
That means you can spot a rare mountain goat on a distant cliff, and hand the binoculars to a friend, and the system will guide your eyes to the right place. Pretty amazing.

The Envision binoculars can lock onto certain targets, for others to see.
Currently at nearly $3,000,000 raised on their IndieGogo campaign, the Envision binoculars are still in their development phase, with expected launch of fall 2026. The company behind the binoculars launched a smart telescope a number of years ago, lending them expertise in this technology.
An early-bird pricing for backing this project costs $899, and the when launched, the retail price is expected at $1499.
