Tiny Portals on Tree Bark: The Enchanting Work of Evgeniya Dudnikova
In the parks and forests around Moscow, artist Evgeniya Dudnikova has quietly transformed the scars of nature into works of wonder. Where tree bark has been cut or stripped, she paints tiny, dreamlike scenes—whimsical windows into imagined worlds.

Referring to her work as a kind of “augmented reality,” Dudnikova uses the raw textures of trees as her canvas, improvising based on the landscape, weather, and atmosphere around her.
Birds, horses, ghosts, and other ethereal figures often emerge, blending fantasy with the deeply organic.

Trained at Moscow’s Stroganov Academy and the Free Workshops School of Contemporary Art, Dudnikova is now based out of Santiago, Chile, and treats each tree not as a damaged object, but as a collaborator.
The result is a delicate reminder that beauty and creativity can sprout from unlikely places—even a scar in the woods.
