Sprout is a new humanoid that is expressive and playful.
Most humanoid robots feel like they belong in a factory. Sprout, the debut from Fauna Robotics, feels like it belongs on your couch.
Standing three and a half feet tall with a soft, padded body and a pair of antenna-like eyebrows that wiggle with emotion, Sprout sidesteps the uncanny valley entirely.
Its rectangular head glows with shifting LED patterns, and its body language, walking, kneeling, crawling, gives it the expressive range of a Pixar character rather than a lab experiment.
The inspiration is clear: Baymax, not Terminator. Fauna Robotics built Sprout to share real spaces with real people, kids and pets included.
Underneath the charm sits serious hardware. NVIDIA Jetson processing, stereoscopic vision, directional microphones, and early adopters like Disney, Boston Dynamics, and NYU are already putting it to work.

At $50,000, this is a development platform, not a household appliance. But it points toward a future where robots don’t try to mimic us, they just feel like they belong.
Those little eyebrows are making a strong case.
