As solar power becomes cheaper and more ubiquitous, we expect it to take a number of new shapes and applications, some of them novel and unique.

This new laptop from Lenovo is a perfect example.

Using an integrated, edge-to-edge solar cell in the lid, the concept Yoga Solar PC can provide one hour of video playback with just 20 minutes in sunlight. At 24% solar efficiency, it’s among the most efficient panels available today.

It’s a seemingly obvious solution to the laptop form factor, and while you might not be sitting outdoors in direct sunlight while browsing the web, we love the idea of passive energy collection.

Even indoors, the solar panels collect enough light to keep the device charged in idle mode. Your dead laptop may be a thing of the past.

Here’s hoping for more technology that integrates solar into everyday applications.
