Pouring water from a cardboard pitcher sounds like a recipe for disaster. But what if the pitcher is actually ceramic, disguised to look like corrugated cardboard?

This visually arresting work is just that, and even under close scrutiny, it’s such a dead-ringer for cardboard that it’s hard to believe. French artist Jacques Monneraud is the creator, and it’s clear he’s a master of his materials.

With a collection of pitchers, teapots and carafes, his work mimics the texture, structure and form that cardboard has, down to the smallest detail. We see the jaggedly cut circles, the ribs of the corrugation, and the paperboard speckled texture that cardboard is known for.
