The beautiful Troodos Observatory recently opened on the Troodos Mountains in Cyprus, and it looks ready for takeoff. It’s a public observatory, which will allow stargazers and astronomers alike to visit and view the heavens above.
This cutting-edge astronomical facility was designed to enhance scientific research and our understanding of the universe, and was designed by sci-fi lovers, architects, and siblings Elena, Nicodemos, and Cassandra Tsolakis. The siblings were inspired by sci-fi like Star Wars as children, and the design certainly looks like it could belong on a planet far, far away.
Located near the top of the Troodos Mountains, it’s strategically placed to take advantage of the region’s clear skies and minimal light pollution, making it an ideal spot for astronomical observations. It features a 20-inch reflective telescope, which is the largest on the island.
The clean, spaceship aesthetic adds to the overall mission of the observatory, lending it a forward thinking vibe. Inside, the space features a spare and minimalist aesthetic.
Just inaugurated in May, 2024, the observatory will be a great resource in the region for decades to come.
