Teenage Engineering is a Swedish-based company that is lauded for their vintage-cool music technology, and world beating industrial design. They’ve successfully launched over a dozen products that range from samplers to synthesizers, speakers, and recorders.

If their latest product, the EP-1320 Medieval feels like a total curveball, that’s pretty on-brand for the company.

The electronic instrument features dozens of pre-recorded instruments, samples, and sounds from the medieval era. We’re talking lutes, hurdy-gurdy, swords, chains, farm animals, and even a dragon.

Indeed, the company touts the ‘torture chamber reverb’,  ‘bardic ensembles’ , and  ‘bubonic beats’.

The machine has an amazing aesthetic, with a color scheme that evokes a time period none of us have lived, but many of us can imagine. From iconography to typefaces, the details are impeccable, and speak to the irreverent and creative minds at Teenage Engineering.
