Thoughts of Sicily conjure up images of a sun soaked island steeped in history and bold traditions.

London-based photographer Dimitar Karanikolov showcases what this beautiful part of Italy looks like, mostly from an aerial perspective.

We see the tightly packed city streets, ancient terracotta roofs, and the cerulean sea that stretches out in every direction.

The collection of photos hint at a tightly knit community that invites exploring on foot.

As he often does in his photographs, Karanikolov shows a top-down aerial perspective that gives symmetry and abstract form to a place, which feels unexpected and novel.
