This futuristic looking balloon in rural Zhejiang, China looks like it could be a minimal alien spaceship. Used as a way to read the weather in this popular place for hiking and camping, the balloon ascends to 75 feet when wind is low. In harsh weather, the balloon retracts back to the ground.

While not a true ‘weather balloon’, it serves as a unique way to view conditions, and adds a fascinating contrast to the verdant fields in this area of China.

Created by Line+Studio, the white balloon is illuminated at night by LEDs, adding a futuristic touch to this rural installation.
