Happy Saturday

Holy cow, summer is nearly over, school is starting or has already begun.

What’re your weekend plans?

NOW ONTO THE ARTICLES…

SATURDAY CURATION:

Sit, if you dare…

We might be standing awhile…

This cheeky seat design by @Coeonnnnn is a working Rubik’s cube, with stool legs attached.

In order to sit on it’s top, the user will have to solve the cube’s many sides, or else have stool legs protruding from all angles, rendering the chair useless.

Oh Noah

Sung by The Jubalaires, their gospel song Noah features clever lyrics about Noah and the Ark, and showcases a style of spoken-singing that was a predecessor to modern day hip hop or rap.

The Jubilaires are know to have performed the first ‘rap’ style song, way back in 1946.

Made up of Orville Brooks, Theodore (Ted) Brooks, Caleb Ginyard and George McFadden, the group was active in the 1930s to 1950s, and were formed in Florida.

The Skin!

The Nodosaur was a dinosaur that roamed Earth during the late Jurassic Period, a mere 161-145 million years ago.

Until recently, very little was known about this species, other than their heavily armored appearance, with spines and spikes to ward off giant predators.

“It was due to the animal’s rapid undersea burial, into the silt of the ocean floor, which then dried and fossilized.  The result is a specimen that scientists lust after, is detailed that skin, keratin and body color can be examined and studied.”

Laser view

Lidar, short for “Light Detection and Ranging,” is like a superpower for measuring distances. It’s a technology that uses laser beams to bounce off objects and create detailed 3D maps of the world around us. Imagine it as if you’re using a laser tape measure, but with incredible precision and speed.

Cartographer Dan Coe uses Lidar in fascinating ways, showcasing rivers and deltas in high resolution that wouldn’t be possibly with traditional means.

Print ‘N Play

In Jinan, China, XISUI Design’s Boulder Park transforms 13,000 square meters into a surreal playscape of 3D-printed concrete boulders.

The park feels both ancient and futuristic, with smooth stone-like forms shaped not by erosion, but by robotic precision.

XISUI sees the project as a glimpse into how 3D printing can shape future landscapes, blending ecology, durability, and imagination. Some of their other playground designs use wood, metal, and recycled materials in fascinating ways, showcasing the breadth of their creativity.

Listen up.

Played on a nine-stringed lyreHurrian Hymn No. 6 is considered the oldest known piece of music in human history.

It’s a beautiful, and memorable sounding piece, discovered in the 1950s, and residing in the ancient city of Ugarit in Syria.
