We recently outfitted a new office, and despite our best efforts, we were left with too much styrofoam (polystyrene).
It’s frustratingly hard to dispose of, and most cities do not accept it for recycling. That’s what caught our eye when we heard about TRASHY, a new company that is giving new life to recycled styrofoam and other waste material.
The North Carolina based company uses recycled styrofoam mixed with concrete to create strong, lighter-weight furniture pieces which are robust, and weatherproof.
Using densified styrofoam integrated with concrete, both materials are made better.
Their 2025 collection includes the Dune Coffee Table, Dune Side Table, Dune Dining Table, and the Wave of Change Side Table.
Each of the pieces has a distinctive texture and finish, adding a tactile exterior, with a robust, hard-wearing build quality. Indeed, the tables can seamlessly be used indoors and outdoors.

In addition to using recycled styrofoam, the rippled wood legs on their side tables are made from naturally fallen trees harvested in North Carolina, leaving a lighter footprint.
