The future of housing is here—layer by layer. In Austin’s Mueller community, ICON and Michael Hsu Office of Architecture have unveiled one of the world’s largest 3D-printed neighborhoods, featuring a dozen strikingly modern homes.

As 3D printing has gotten more commonplace, the use cases and scale of it has grown, too. ICON is a company out of Texas that specializes in home-scale 3D printing.

Built with ICON’s advanced concrete-printing tech, these homes are visually unique, and they’re also energy-efficient, durable, and sustainably made with minimal waste.

The organic, sculptural walls showcase what’s possible when cutting-edge design meets next-gen construction. We quite like the rounded, textural aesthetic of the 3D-printed aspects, and it’s well paired with traditional built elements.

Will this be the next chapter of architecture, or just a blip? We’ll have to see.
