Today is World Photography Day
August 19 marks the day in 1839 when the French government announced the daguerreotype process to the world as a “gift to humanity.” The daguerreotype was both a technical marvel and an artistic revolution.
As photography changed our culture, the art form became democratized to a point where just about anyone on the planet has a camera in their pocket.
Wikipedia has a great compilation of the most important photos in human history here.
