For some time, the idea of a bendable display screen was cutting-edge technology. Now with folding phones relatively commonplace, we see advancements that go far beyond just bending.
This new prototype display from LG shows a recent breakthrough in technology, with the ability to stretch, bend, twist, and warp. Able to be stretched up to 50% more than its original size, the display uses a silicone substrate that is similar to materials used in contact lenses.
The resulting display technology could be used when screen size needs to adjust to various use cases, on non-traditional surfaces, or even on clothing and apparel.
In addition, LG’s Stretchable display technology is engineered to withstand extreme temperatures and impacts, making it robust in real world settings.

The flexible display material has a 100 pixels per inch (psi) resolution, and can be stretched and warped over 10,000 times in its life, without an impact to picture or resolution.

We can imagine an application where the stretchable display can move like traditional buttons, or provide tactile feedback.
