Mass timber, a type of engineered wood structure, is meant to take the place of load bearing elements like steel and concrete. It’s becoming increasingly popular, due to its strength, lighter weight, and reduced emissions.
Considered the first mass timber constructed homes in India, this large modern house is the work of Architecture Discipline, and was recently completed in the southern state of Goa.

The sleek, linear home is made up of 11 glued laminated timber (glulam) portal frames, which give the home a natural beauty, plus a range of environmental and construction benefits.
Located in Vagator, Goa, the home is set on a rectangular cement slab, and is surrounded by beautiful foliage and trees in this tropical paradise.

Inside, the beauty of the exposed beams, paired with an open floor plan, and a polished black granite floor, make for an impressive layout. A minimal interior decor includes black railings and stair, and mid-century modern furniture.
A charred timber exterior, and large glass expanses add to the home’s modernist, impressive appearance.
