India is a country of 1.3 billion people. In mega cities like Delhi and Mumbai, millions of people get around on auto rickshaws, or three-wheelers.
If you’ve been there, you know how convenient and even charming the auto rickshaws can be. Though they’re traditionally quite dirty and polluting. Indeed, 21 of the world’s 30 most polluted cities are in India, and in need of cleaner transport.
Hyundai is going after this market, with two new EVs that significantly upgrade the concept of what a rickshaw can be.

With a three-wheel and four-wheel version, Hyundai’s E3W and E4W feature a sleek, yet futuristically-boxy design that have open cabins, and great attention to detail.
The slim and maneuverable vehicles are designed for narrow roads, and offer either handlebar or steering wheels to get around.
Inside, the driver has a slim, integrated dash display, ample storage, and a phone mount.

Passengers have plenty of space, and protection from the elements.

Designed to be easily reconfigurable, the concepts have multi-purpose modes, able to be used for last-mile delivery, package hauling, and even wheelchair accessibility.

Also designed to be low-cost, Hyundai has made the designs modular and easy to manufacture. Partnering with India’s TVS Motor Company, these electric rickshaws could be the answer the country needs to growing populations and air pollution.
