Folding phones have been around for many years now, though they’re still just a fraction of all smartphones sold.
Google hopes to increase this market share, with their latest flagship device, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. It’s the thinnest foldable on the market, and has a 6.3″ Actua outer display and an 8″ Super Actua Flex inner display that’s 80% brighter than its predecessor.
Google has been pushing their Gemini AI assistant, and the latest Pixel phone has a range of Gemini features built in.

Touting their cameras, the phone include an f/1.7, 48-megapixel wide-angle, a 10.5-megapixel ultrawide with macro capabilities, a 10.8-megapixel 5x telephoto, and 10-megapixel forward-facing cameras on both the front and inside. Whew.
We’re fans of the industrial design of the phone, which has great finishes and rounded edges. We’re also curious about the feel of a foldable phone, never having used one ourselves. At this point in the form factor’s evolution, we imagine the hinge and screen quality have advanced an appreciable amount.
Starting at $1799, it’s clear this is a highly premium product, with a price to match. Will this latest foldable begin to popularize the category, or will foldable phones continue to be a niche product? Time will tell.

Google’s camera quality has always been a strong selling point for the Pixel line, and we expect it will be excellent here, too.

When opened, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold claims the largest screen of any phone. Indeed, it approaches or even eclipses the size of a small tablet.

Form factors like the ability to fold and stand are appealing for such a device, and we’re happy to see the software taking advantage of this form.

Have you used a foldable phone before? If so, is it a much better experience than a normal one? More cumbersome?

“The second gen Pixel Fold is 13% thinner and 8% lighter than its predecessor, so it can easily slip into your pocket or bag. And that slim look is matched by a new design, which features a silky matte glass back with a satin finish metal frame. The larger 6.3″ outer screen also makes it feel more like a phone when you close it.”

Google claims to have the world’s thinnest foldable phone with the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
