Quack Architecture is Surprisingly Lovely
Imagine giving ducks the architecturally elegant home they never asked for. That’s the idea behind this installation by artist Cheng Tsung FENG.
Set on a serene pond at Taiwan’s Swiio Villa Yilan, FENG devised four floating wooden huts, each one a mini pinecone-inspired pavilion, tailored through trial and error to suit the resident call ducks’ tastes. 🦆
The huts are clad in slanted wooden shingles (chic and practical), varying in size and buoyancy, because ducks have highly specific interior design needs, of course. ;)
The designers tracked how the birds approached the huts, tweaking everything from window height to flotation until the ducks gave their silent seal of approval.
More in the world of architecture, this stunning coffeeshop in Thailand is worth a look.

Enormous, 100 Year Old Church Relocated in Sweden
In Kiruna, Sweden, one of the country’s largest wooden buildings and most beloved churches was recently relocated, requiring enormous effort.
713 tons, all in one go.
Requiring the help of specialist heavy-lift company Mammoet, the Kiruna Church was moved to make way for the town’s expanding iron ore mine. The operation was dubbed ‘the great church walk’, and was quite the undertaking.
Working with Norwegian construction and civil engineering company Veidekke, the 713-ton church building was carefully jacked up onto two trains of 28 axle lines of self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs).

Scientists Have Created Succulents That Glow Like Neon After Sunset
Scientists have created succulents that glow in the dark after soaking up sunlight. Using tiny phosphor particles, the same materials that make glow-in-the-dark toys shine, they’ve managed to turn ordinary plants into natural lanterns.
A few minutes under the sun or an LED lamp is enough to “charge” these plants, which then emit a steady, colorful glow for hours.
It’s easy to imagine entire glowing gardens, pathways, or even city parks illuminated this way.
We can imagine sustainable, self-recharging, and breathtakingly beautiful plant life that becomes lighting elements themselves.
Deep within caves in New Zealand, these glow worms are positively amazing to witness.
Van Gogh Cubified In This Fascinating Sculpture Painting
Artist Timur Zagirov knows a thing or two about sawing wood.
Indeed, he has created a beautiful rendition of Van Gogh’s famous self portrait, using a myriad of colored wooden blocks. 425 polished pine cubes, to be precise.
Viewed from a distance, the mosaic has an uncanny resemblance to the Dutch painter’s work.
Up close, the blocks become an indistinguishable wooden tapestry, colored in the various hues that makeup the painting.
