Hello, friends!

Fog Signals is our weekly round up of activating stories.
This week we look at an impressive vertical jungle skyscraper, an affable home robot, and paintings that defy gravity.

MVRDV’s “The Island” Brings a Gaudí-Esque Vertical Jungle to Taiwan
In a world of rigid glass rectangles, Dutch architecture firm MVRDV is throwing us a curveball. Or rather, thousands of them.
Meet “The Island,” a 21-story residential tower set to rise in Taichung, Taiwan. Unlike its boxy neighbors, this structure is an undulating, organic mass that looks less like a building and more like a cliffside overgrown with nature.
The most striking feature isn’t just the lush vertical gardens spilling off the balconies, it’s the skin of the building itself. Wrapped in a bespoke mosaic of white ceramic tiles, the façade pays direct homage to Catalan master Antoni Gaudí.

The Quiet Elegance of Frost on Leaves
Late fall doesn’t always get the credit it deserves. The big leaf show is over, the trees look a little tired, and the days get shorter.
But then a cold morning arrives, and suddenly the ground is covered in leaves dressed up like they’re going to a sparkle-themed party.
Frost has a way of transforming even the crunchiest old leaf into something worth photographing. The crystals trace every ridge and outline, giving each leaf a shiny, sugar-coated edge.
What makes it even better is how temporary the whole thing is. The second the sun warms up, the icy details start to melt away. Blink and you miss it.
Memo is an Affable, Charming Home Robot Helper
No metal overlord here. Just a charming, cartoon-like face.
Instead of walking, this robot rolls around like a cheerful animated sidekick, complete with a wide base and a playful cartoon cap that makes it feel more like a character than a machine. It’s immediately disarming in the best way.
What’s refreshing about Memo is that it’s built for real life, not for a glossy tech demo.
If you believe all of the marketing, it can clear dishes, help fold laundry, pick things up, and generally act like the world’s most patient little helper.
And, Memo is doing so fully autonomously, unlike a number of other humanoid robots.
Sunday Robotics trained it using a special sensor glove in hundreds of actual homes, which means it’s unbothered by messy kitchens, kids’ toys on the floor, or the general chaos that most robots would panic over.

Birmingham’s Eternal Wall of Answered Prayer
A striking new landmark is taking shape near Birmingham, UK. The Eternal Wall of Answered Prayer is a dramatic 51-meter-tall loop designed by Snug Architects.
Made from one million bricks, the structure will serve as a public archive, with each brick linked to a real story submitted by people across the UK.
Visitors will be able to scan any brick with their phone to read the associated story, creating a large, searchable record of personal experiences.
The monument’s looped form is meant to stand out from nearby motorways, rail lines, and even planes approaching the airport, making it visible to thousands every day.
Rather than functioning as a traditional monument, the Eternal Wall is designed as an interactive piece of public architecture that collects and shares community stories in a simple, accessible way.
