That power strip over in your corner sure is ugly, but it is critical to your living room setup.

That’s the idea behind this strange yet charmingly unique take on what to do with mundane household appliances.

Dutch ceramicist Willem van Hooff and Nordic design brand Pedestal have teamed up to turn mundane extension leads into sculptural statement pieces. Think clay-wrapped power modules that look more like earthy gems than ugly plastic blocks.

These “Ceramic Power Gems” let you ditch the idea that cables must be hidden. Each one is a unique, handmade ceramic shell encasing the functional guts. It’s raw textures meeting high-tech innards.

Launching this September via a limited drop on Pedestal’s site, these gems merge primitive craft with precise engineering.

Can something as ordinary as an extension cord or power strip be elevated to high art? Should it be?

With their European-spec outlets, these sculptures are out to prove that everyday utility and creative arts don’t need to be mutually exclusive.
