We see them all over rural landscapes: giant metal pylons, the generic towers that hold up high transmission lines across long distances.
These benign yet uninspired towers are getting a creative overhaul in Austria, thanks to the design by Austrian Power Giants, a project that is part of the larger grid operator. The work includes GP designpartners and Baucon.
The novel concept would utilize 9 giant animal towers in each of the country’s nine federal states.
Designed to both enhance the landscape and bring more tourism to these areas, we find it delightfully unexpected and creative.
Below are two of the initial concepts, involving an enormous deer and stork, both of which have historical significance to their proposed areas.
The tower designs have already gone through initial static and electrical pretesting, but it remains to be seen when they will be built.
