In the rolling vineyards of Hungary’s UNESCO-listed Tokaj region, architecture and landscape conspire into something sublime.

Designed by BORD Architectural Studio, Sauska Tokaj winery rises as a sculptural tether between earth and air.

It has two lens-shaped volumes that appear to float, levitated by slender steel columns above the gently sloping hillside.

Beautiful native plantings bring an earthiness to the clean, contemporary forms.

The conceptual ambition was to create a structure that “touches without touching,” offering visitors an immersive dialog with the terrain rather than dominating it.

The winery’s production spaces includes fermentation halls, cellars, mechanical rooms, and are discreetly embedded into the hillside, preserving the purity of the forms above.

The result is clean, sophisticated, but also a bit sci-fi, feeling as if the aliens touched down for a nice, crisp Furmint.

Inside, the building’s curves guide the visitor’s gaze outward. High ceilings taper toward panoramic views, and a material palette of warm woods, local limestone, and textured steel resonates with the vineyard below.

The entire experience honors heritage of the region through innovation, allowing the land, light, and vine to remain the true stars.
