Karim+Elias, a design studio based in the UAE, has created a beautiful new coffee table called Desert Drop.
Inspired by the desert landscape, the table features a smooth glass top that rests on three rounded pebbles made from compressed sand. The design looks like water droplets sitting in the sand, capturing the quiet beauty of an oasis in the middle of the desert.

It was recently shown at Dubai’s Downtown Design Fair and quickly grabbed attention for its elegant and peaceful form.
The table is part of Karim+Elias’s larger focus on nature-inspired design. By using sand and glass—two materials that are naturally connected—they highlight the relationship between the desert and the objects it inspires.
The way the sand is used mimics natural landscapes, and brings a gorgeous texture sensibility into any space. The designers speak about the technique of rammed earth, which has been used for millennia.

Their other projects, like Sand Skins and The Desert Relics, also explore the textures and colors of the UAE’s landscapes.
Desert Drop is an elegant introduction of these ancient materials being used in novel and inspiring ways.
