Unlike it’s relatively calm demeanor these days, the early years of Planet Earth were quite violent and wild. Bombarded for millions of years by asteroids, roiling with fires and volcanos and explosions, the Hadean Epoch was a time of intense change. Our oceans were repeatedly boiled away to nothing until the crust of the earth solidified and calmed things down a bit. Scientists have some new visualizations of that era. Let’s just say you wouldn’t have wanted to be a bystander 4 billion years ago. Via Gizmodo:
