British animal photographer Gerrard Gethings has a knack for capturing personality through fur and feathers—and in his latest project, he’s taken that talent to a delightfully uncanny level.
In a series created for the memory game Do You Look Like Your Dog?, Gethings explores the age-old trope that pets and their owners tend to mirror one another. But rather than starting with humans, Gethings began by scouting the perfect canine characters first—each brimming with charisma and expressive charm. Only then did he find their human doppelgängers.
The result? A playful, sharply observed collection of 25 look-alike pairs—from a regal Afghan hound and her equally silky-haired human, to a tousled-haired boy and his scruffy pup companion. There’s even a Schnauzer whose beard game matches his leather-jacketed owner’s to uncanny effect.
Equal parts heartwarming and hilarious, the project is a love letter to the quirky bonds we share with our four-legged friends. It’s also proof that sometimes, we really do become our pets.
