Lis Sam’s Blossoming Girls feels like portraiture in the middle of a transformation.
Faces come together through swarms of butterflies, petals, and delicate natural fragments, images that seem scattered at first, then suddenly cohere as you step back.
There’s something captivating in that push and pull between fragility and control. The works are intricate without feeling overly polished, and surreal without drifting too far from the human figure.
Inspired by a butterfly conservatory in southern France, Sam uses those forms not as decoration, but as the foundation of each portrait.
The result is dreamlike, detailed, and just a little disorienting, in the best way.
