Visual artist Kumkum Fernando takes us on a vibrant journey with his first furniture piece, entitled The 27th Century Collector’s Cabinet.

This highly limited run of 27 pieces makes it highly sought after, and we can only imagine his career in visual arts will continue to bloom, further growing Fernando’s career.

Sri Lankan born, Fernando’s work has been prevalent at major venues like Coachella, helping to transform a dry, desert-like environment into a highly colorful and memorable one.

Feeling both futuristic and nostalgic, Fernando’s latest project moves from a purely sculptural context to one of utility, while remaining beautifully artistic.

The 27th Century Collector’s Cabinet takes its structural cue from the traditional Chinese medicine chest — historically used to store sacred remedies — and reimagines it as a sculptural object of the future. Finished by hand in high-gloss lacquer with brass detailing, the piece draws from the visual languages of Asian temples, retro-futurist symbolism, ancient textiles, psychedelic visions, and Neo-Tantric art.

It builds on the mythologies Kumkum Fernando has developed  through his robot-like sculptural figures, translating their universes into functional form.

This is the artist’s first foray into furniture, marking the beginning of a new sculptural series titled The Birth of the Cosmos.

The collection will continue to explore mythic geometry, psychedelic ritual, and space-age design across collectible, functional works.

The hand lacquered cabinet features psychedelic colors and patterns on each of the small drawers.

We love the curio nature of the piece, which invites exploration and discovery. What will live in each drawer?

With his signature blending of colors and forms, Fernando turns a traditional furniture piece into something full of wonder.

The limited run of cabinets are priced at $2300.
