The Alpine Alpenglow HY4 is a futuristic, low-slung sports car featuring a hydrogen powertrain where a normal internal combustion engine would be.

It is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four making 340 horsepower, but using hydrogen instead of normal fuel. The engine revs to 7,000 RPM, drawing fuel from three tanks, each of which carries 4.6 pounds of hydrogen at over 10,000 psi.

We’re curious how this prototype powertrain will work in the real world, though it’s fascinating to think of traditional style engines running on zero emissions hydrogen.

“Alpenglow takes its name from a beautiful natural phenomenon. From front to rear, its carbon bodywork is carved for the racetrack. Aerodynamic new alloy wheels and magenta accents mark out Alpine’s ‘feel at one’ cockpit.”
