Generally, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) gives people a sneak peek at the most cutting-edge, sleek, and forward thinking gadgets that are coming out soon.
This year, the show’s standout star isn’t a new fridge that orders groceries for you (although that was announced). Nor was it a coffee table with legs, that walks around following you (although that was announced as well).

Indeed, a small, furry sloth-like companion, that hugs a purse strap or arm snugly, has been the breakout star.
Called Mirumi from Japanese company Yukai Engineering, the adorably soft and irreverent little robot companion can hold your gaze, but also hides its face bashfully.
With simple yet charming details, and the overall goal of just being a cute companion, we can see why this deceptively goofy robot has attracted so much attention.

The fact that a relatively unknown little company has stolen the spotlight from major tech companies makes Mirumi all the more endearing and likable.

After a crowdfunding campaign this year, Mirumi aims to be available for sale for $100.

“People often find great joy in sharing their own happiness with others. Mirumi is a robot that enables you to do just that,”
Yukai Engineering CEO Shunsuke Aoki said.
“Whether you’re riding a crowded train or standing in line at the cashier, your Mirumi will always find a way to reach into people’s hearts with its innocent gaze, prompting the person to wave at the robot or make a funny face in response.
