KEEP, a collaboration between LAYER design studio and Orrefors, transforms food preservation into countertop sculpture.

Think mouth‑blown glass vessels with leather-wrapped rope handles, sleek enough to leave out, sturdy enough to ferment your cucumbers all year long.

Material meets ritual

The minimalist glass form frames your contents, almost turning pickling into a slow-motion performance piece.

Indeed, the clear nature of the vessels makes this a visual showstopper.

Form follows fermentation

Airtight and self-regulating, KEEP harnesses ancient preservation logic (fermentation, no electricity) with architectural precision and restraint.

KEEP is a fermentation vessel that reimagines ancient food preservation techniques for a resource-conscious future. Crafted from mouth-blown glass with natural leather details, it’s designed to create an airtight environment for fermenting and storing food naturally, without the need for modern refrigeration. KEEP honours the food that sustains us and encourages a slower, more intentional way of living. KEEP will be unveiled at 101010 during Milan Design Week at an exhibition celebrating 10 years of LAYER. Join us at the @10CorsoComo Project Room in @BreraDesignDistrict to discover the future. And yes, the nature of rampant pickling made us dig up this treasure from Portlandia.

KEEP reminds us that design isn’t just about hiding apothecary jars or keeping things cold.

It’s about turning everyday routines into deliberate, tactile experiences.

Plus, it’s proof that fermentation can be good for aesthetics and taste alike (even if your colleagues start wondering why you keep smelling like a deli).
